Portland Nursery Apple Festival

Based on my recent posts it is very obvious that I love eating, picking and baking with apples. Every year Portland Nursery puts on an apple tasting event, but for some reason this is the first year I have gone!! To make up for it I went both weekends of the festival to really soak in all of the amazing apple events!

The first thing that greets you at the event are the samples of the fresh pressed apple cider. OMG, I have never tasted a more delicious apple drink. It was incredibly fresh and clean and I could literally drink it every day. Naturally we took a bottle or two home! The event also features great food, like apple crisp, apple streusel and caramel apples. There was a concert tent set up in the nursery with live music and speciality acts for kids. Inside the tasting tent there was a scarecrow contest, and they had pumpkin decorating for kids also.

The highlight of the event, though, is the apple tasting. With over 60 different varieties to sample, the task can get a little daunting near the end of the line! Luckily they provide scoring sheets, which include descriptions of each apple and how they are best used, where you can mark which apples you are loving. After sampling all of the apples you can buy your favorites for only 99 cents per pound! That is an insane price for apples, and they are still selling them even after the festival ends.
