11 Interior Design Trends for 2024

Quiet Luxury

Quiet luxury has been all over the fashion world in the last year, so it is only natural it become an interior design trend as well! Think understated elegance and a lack of trends - classic designs, timeless styles, luxurious textures and colors and subtle patterns. This certainly doesn’t mean stuffy though, it should still be approachable and cozy, just ultra-chic.

Big Statement Art

I’ve been very into statement art for awhile, and luckily the trend is here to stay! Gallery walls are fading in popularity in favor of large scale prints and more sculptural art, either on walls or displayed throughout the room. In a similar vein, turning practical items, like light fixtures or furniture, into large-scale statement art will remain popular in 2024.

Vintage Vibes

Another trend that has been evolving over the last few years is a resurgence of Romanticism and vintage design elements. The Grand Millennial style, with lots of girly, vintage details, had a big moment recently and is still trending today. The vintage style is evolving though and now is more about mixing and matching different historical eras and design styles to create something unique and personal while still being vintage. There’s no need to stick to an era or a style - mix and match and come up with something all your own!

Layering Textures and Interior Elements

One of the easiest ways to make your home look expensive and pulled together is by layering textures, patterns and other interior decor items to create visual interest. If you are going for a monochrome look layering textures is crucial to giving you a richer, more nuanced palate. Even if your room isn’t tone-on-tone mixing in different elements and materials makes the look feel more complete and intentional. Think of it the same way as you would styling an outfit - of course the pieces matter, but how you layer and style and mix and match is what takes things up a notch!

Earth Tones

Earth tones were definitely popular the past few years, but they continue to be a design trend in 2024. Brown is having a particularly big moment, not just in fashion but in interior design as well. It is a great neutral, softer than black, that can be layered with other colors to create a calm, cohesive color palate and exude a natural ambiance.

Wall Treatments

Wallpaper comes and go’s in popularity, but there is usually some form of wall treatment that is popular at any given time. This year wall treatments reign supreme, from elegant wallpaper to subtle patterned treatments, bold murals to dark wood paneling. Wall treatments make a big impact and are a fantastic way to add personality and life to a space.

Tone-on-tone Decor

Decorating in a monochromatic color palate adds an understated elegance to a space and really elevates. When done well it looks chic, intentional, cozy and calming. Trim painted in the same color as the walls is becoming more popular, as is painting the ceiling the same color as the walls. If you aren’t fully ready to commit, consider layering different fabrics in the same color family to create a rich elegance to your space.

Personalized Spaces

Personalization is big in 2024 - not only imbuing your home with touches of your personality through your decor choices, but also customizing your home to fit your unique lifestyle. Adding a Butler’s Pantry if you love to cook and need extra prep space, creating a built-in China Pantry to display your collections, or building a wet bar if you love entertaining are all great options that will go a long way in designing a space that is functional and useful to you!

Saturated Colors

While neutral colors (see the popularity of earth tones above) are absolutely still in, if you want to go the other way and add more color that is perfectly on trend as well! Going bold with colors could be reflected on your walls or with accessories. Some saturated colors that are particularly “in” right now are chartreuse, peach and apricot, jewel tones, yellow and green. Have fun with the bold colors this year!

Mixed Metals

Metals are making a comeback in 2024, perhaps in opposition to the natural, earthy trend that has been dominating the past few years. Silver, chrome and stainless-steel are some of the standout metals, but don’t be afraid to add any other metals to the mix!

Embellishments Everywhere

From hardware to range hoods, scallops to stripes, adding embellishments is a popular trend for 2024. Say goodbye to the sleek, unfussy styles of the past and embrace adding in fun detailing anywhere you can! You can go subtle with well-placed tassel trim, contrasting patterns or intricate drawer pulls. Or really step it up swap out your range hood, lighting or fireplace mantle! More is more in 2024, so go all out with embellishments!
