12 Interior Design Trends for 2023

An Emphasis on Entertaining

As we come out of the Covid haze of the last few years, people are ready to spend time with family and friends again! Dining rooms are gaining popularity as dinner parties come back into style, and carving out spaces to gather is going to be key in 2023. Make sure your entertaining spaces are comfortable and cozy though - we aren’t looking for the stuffy living room of the past where everyone is afraid of sitting down or spilling! Make your home inviting to encourage friends to stay awhile!

Decadence

Gold accents, dark wood, luxurious fabrics - decadence is in! Minimalism and cold interiors are definitely waning in popularity in favor of more traditional design, which includes decadent fabrics and styles.

Accent Walls

Many trends are cyclical and come in and out of fashion over the years. Case in point - accent walls. These days the accent wall isn’t just a different color though! It may be a wallpaper wall, a wood wall, or some other way to make it stand out. One great thing about this trend is that it can be easily changed and is a pretty small commitment!

Natural Materials

Natural materials have been on trend for a few years now, and they will continue to be popular in 2023. Don’t be afraid to mix textures and materials either! Stone, like travertine or marble, will be big in 2023, as will rich, dark wood. Use accessories for a small nod to natural materials or go all out with an oversized burl wood dining table or a statement rattan chandelier.

A Focus on Showing Your Personality

Gone are the days of Pinterest perfect homes that are lacking in personality. Welcome to 2023, the year of personality-driven design! Do you collect seashells or teacups? Show them off! Do you love bold colors and patterns? Go crazy! Make your home unique and personal to you and your family, not some cookie-cutter version of what everyone else is doing.

An Abundance of Texture

Texture continues to be a popular trend as we move into 2023. To keep your space from looking flat and dull try to mix in many different textures in many different spots! Add a stone vase to your entry table, replace your blinds with textured shades, get a fun textured wallpaper for your powder room. The possibilities are endless!

Sustainable Design

Sustainability is here to stay - I don’t think at any point in the future will sustainability go out of fashion, rather it will become so obvious that it doesn’t need to be discussed! As sustainability becomes more important in all facets of life, it will be important in interior design as well.

Bold and Beautiful Colors

Color is a great way to show your personality and make a statement! This is such a simple trend to implement as well - switch out neutral throw pillows for those in rich colors, paint a statement wall, or add in a fun accent chair or other small piece of furniture. As stated above, 2023 is going to be all about showing off your personality, so choose your favorite bold and beautiful colors and go wild!

Modernist Curves

Curved furniture is going to be everywhere in 2023! Curves feel softer and more natural and lend a more relaxed feeling to a space. Look for this trend not only in furniture but in architectural design too - curved walls, arches, a gorgeous statement staircase. Incorporate some curves into your home this year to help make it feel more welcoming and comfortable (and on trend!).

Vintage Furniture

In keeping with the sustainable design trend, what better way to reduce your carbon footprint than by shopping vintage? Don’t be afraid to mix and match different eras and styles either! You can even make small tweaks to vintage pieces, like recovering a fabulous chair or painting an end table, to help make it your own.

Statement Rugs

Can you tell that 2023 is going to be all about making a statement? Don’t let showing off your personality stop on the walls or the furniture - bring it to the floor!! I’ve seen some fabulous rug collaborations lately that involve fun colors, bold patterns and fearless design. If you don’t want to go too crazy with statement rugs consider a smaller entry rug or kitchen runner to dip your toes into the trend.

Architectural Elements

When I say architectural elements are in I mean two things. First, nods to architectural styles will make their way into home furnishings. Mid-century modern styling has been popular for awhile and will remain a chic design style, but we will also see art deco in more homes this year. I’m also talking about making your interior more architecturally unique - incorporating arches or modernist curves or other architectural design into your space.
